Tensor Cleans Up Time & Attendance for Wallgate
Established over 40 years ago, Wallgate is a market leader and specialist in the design and manufacture of robust, innovative and efficient washrooms and sanitary ware solutions.
Headquartered in Salisbury, the company has a vast network of distribution partners across Europe, North America, Australasia, Asia and South Africa and requires an ever-growing workforce to cope with the high demand.
Wallgate’s history with Tensor starts back in 2008 when the company had its first Tensor Time and Attendance solutions installed. Wallgate then proceeded to a full system upgrade in 2018, which saw it benefit from the latest functionality upgrades available in the Tensor.NET workforce management platform.
One of the main reasons for the upgrade wasthat “we wanted to be able to put all of the HR personnel information into one database so that it was GDPR compliant, and to eliminate paper personnel files”, Wallgate’s HR Manager, Catherine Rousell, told the Tensor reporter.
Hardware-wise, Wallgate’s upgraded system comprises multiple Tensor T32xx clocking stations installed within the offices and each production area. Software-wise, the company has opted for the business versions of Tensor’s flagship WinTA.NET (Time and Attendance) and HR.NET (Personnel Management) software modules, as well as the Self-Service Module (SSM), in both its web-based and mobile app options.
Once the full upgrade was completed successfully, the relevant Wallgate members of staff involved in the daily use of the system attended a training session conducted by one of Tensor’s Software Product Trainers. The session was described by Catherine as “excellent – the Tensor trainer was really good”.
When asked what she likes most about the Self Service Module and Tensor.NET, Catherine said: “It is very, very useful and saves me an awful lot of time”, with “the ease of finding important information” being another significant plus. “It also makes my life very easy when it comes to working out how many people are close to the sickness leave limit”, she added.
Catherine also told the Tensor reporter that the Clocking System is “incredibly important” due to Wallgate being a fast-paced manufacturing environment – so tracking whether members of staff clock-in late can be done in a very easy and transparent manner.
In addition, she explained that she uses the Absence Planner every morning when she arrives at work because she “can have the whole year in front of me so I have a pictorial glance immediately of how much sickness they’ve had, how much holiday they’ve had so that I can easily calculate it up for the year”.
Wallgate employees use Tensor contactless smartcards at the clocking stations to register themselves onto Tensor.NET. These smart cards use secure radio-frequency technology and can be read at a distance even through a pocket or wallet. Catherine describes these as “very easy to assign and very easy to use”.
The Tensor Helpdesk was described as a “great service” and as “very friendly” by Wallgate’s HR Manager. Catherine recalled an instance when she experienced some difficulties setting up shifts and rosters, but the Tensor Helpdesk Analysts were able to immediately determine what the issue was and helped her sort it.
Asked whether Wallgate had any plans to extend their Tensor system, Catherine was able to reveal that, in 2023, the company will be moving to a brand new purpose-built factory and they “will be having Tensor Access Control systems in place”. The reason? “We have been thoroughly impressed with the Tensor systems that we currently have installed“, Catherine commented.
Summing up Wallgate’s experience of Tensor, Catherine concluded: “Tensor’s Self Service Module and the Tensor.NET software are very efficient tools for managing a busy manufacturing environment”.
