Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Install Tensor Security

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue needed a simple “non computerised” access control system for their new command centre in Derby, but at the same time they wanted it to use the latest technology. After reviewing several different types of system they chose the T2002 from Tensor.

“The Tensor T2002 was the easiest-to-use system we came across.” said Steve Holt-Garner, Information Servce Manager for Derbyshire Fire & Rescue. “It’s fast, reliable and requires no PC’s to run it, and very little maintenance.”

Steve commented that as a public sector organisation they have to spend their money wisely. Although the low cost of the T2002 was a factor in purchasing the system from Tensor, the overriding reason was the speed with which the Tensor Smart Cards allowed you to get though the doors. At Derbyshire Fire & Rescue headquarters, two doors are controlled by the T2002; the main entrance door and the door to the inner control room.

“We like the T2202 because cardholders can gain access to the control room without any intervention from anybody inside. Therefore, it does not impair operations inside the control centre” said Steve.

The intercom on the front door it is also connected to the T2002. This means that staff can override the electronic door lock from the main control room in case a visitor turns up or if cardholders forget their Smart Card.

One good piece of news for Derbyshire Fire & Rescue is that if they ever need to hold an historical audit trail of access, the clever T2002 already does it! – Just connect the T2002 to the serial port of the PC, and away it goes.
